[ag-before-rating]Review Summary:
The Kitchen Aid KCDB250G looks like a decent 1/2 HP garbage disposal unit, but it doesn’t do enough to stand out in its class. With only a 1-year warranty and mostly galvanized steel parts, this is a difficult unit to recommend. At the same price a product like the Waste King L-2600 (review here) makes a lot more sense, with stainless steel grinding parts and a 5-year warranty.

Pros: Decent performance, compact design

Cons: Galvanized steel grinding parts, short warranty

Kitchen Aid KCDB250G Review

There’s nothing special about the KCDB250G. As far as 1/2 HP disposers go, it’s about as standard as they come. It occupies a similar price range as the much more popular Waste King units, and can’t really compete with them on construction quality or warranty.

Let’s take a quick look at the basics of this garbage disposal, but I can tell you right now that there are other, better garbage disposals to consider.

Installation

This is a standard 3-bolt mount that’s no more easy or difficult to work with than any other 3-bolt mount disposals. There’s nothing funny or hard about the installation. If you’ve installed garbage disposals before, you’ll find it’s a case of more of the same with the Kitchen Aid.

The unit comes without a power cord and is meant to be hard-wired into your electrical circuitry. At 13 pounds and with a fairly compact design this is one of the easier garbage disposals to maneuver in a small space, so if you have little space under your sink that’s something worth considering.

The Kitchen Aid KCDB250G In Action

The noise levels on this model is quite acceptable thanks to a polystyrene sound barrier, which does a decent job. The 1/2 HP motor performs as expected and will gobble up and pulverize most generic household food waste without a problem. Lemon and potato peels pose a problem though and the disposer struggles to deal with them.

Bottom Line: Kitchen Aid has produced a decent garbage disposal with the KCDB250G, but there’s no reason to recommend it over similar offerings from Waste King, with better warranties and stainless steel inner components. Reports of Kitchen Aid’s lack of support after the short warranty period doesn’t inspire confidence either.
