[ag-before-rating]Review Summary:
The Waste King 9940 is basically an exact copy of the L-3200 model, with the only change being the mounting system. The 9940 has a 3-bolt mount, while the L-3200 features Waste King’s EZ mount.

In other words, this review will not be a lot different to that one. You’re getting great performance, a combination of stainless steel grinding components and a glass-filled nylon housing to prevent corrosion and an 8-year warranty. This is a super product at a competitive price.

Pros: Performance, easy installation, power cord included, warranty

Cons: Bulky

Waste King Legend 9940 Review

With 2,700 RPM of grinding power backed up by a 3/4 HP motor, there’s not a lot that this garbage disposal won’t be able to handle. It has a slightly smaller capacity than the Waste King 9950 (also a 3/4 HP model), so that’s worth considering.

As usual, Waste King packs solid performance and sensible build quality into an almost budget-priced product. It’s no wonder their disposals are so popular.

Installation

Instead of the usual EZ Mount system, Waste King 9940 has a standard 3-bolt mount for complete compatibility with older installations. If you are replacing a 3-bolt mounted disposal, this should be an easy installation.

Waste King doesn’t use metal housings, instead opting for the stong but lighter glass-filled nylon. The lighter weight helps to make a solo installation possible, where the heavy Insinkerator units usually requires some help.

You get a 3-prong plug and 36-inch power cord with the product, so it’s ready to plug in if you already have a wall outlet.

There’s nothing funny about the installation and everything fits together as they should.

The Waste King 9940 In Action

Waste Kings aren’t the quietest units out there (that honor goes to the higher end Insinkerators), but noise levels are still acceptable.

There’s still the problem of the smaller drain opening on this model that almost all Waste Kings have, so expect slower water drainage from the sink unless you cut the baffle away a little.

This is a powerful unit and makes short work of most household garbage. The stainless steel grinding components will last a long time, and the nylon/glass housing won’t be prone to corrosion either.

Bottom Line: The Waste King Legend 9940 is an excellent garbage disposal unit. Be aware of the Waste King 9950, which has the same motor and parts but a little more capacity and a 10-year warranty instead of 8 for about $10 or so extra.
